Tips of Optical Materials

Projection materials are divided into three categories: optical glass, optical crystal and optical plastic. Their optical characteristics are mainly determined by their transmittance and refractive index to various colors of light.

Optical glass

Optical glass is the most commonly used optical material, with mature manufacturing technology and complete varieties. Generally, optical glass can transmit various colors of light with a wavelength of 0.35-2.5m, and light beyond this wavelength range will be strongly absorbed by the optical glass.

Optical crystals

The transmission wavelength range of optical crystals is generally wider than that of optical glass, and its application is increasingly widespread.

Optical plastic

Optical plastic refers to organic materials that can be used to replace optical glass. Because of its low price, low density, light weight, easy molding, low cost, high production efficiency, and resistance to breakage, it has been used in some middle and low-end materials in recent years. Optical glass is gradually replaced in optical instruments.

Main disadvantages: The thermal expansion coefficient and the temperature coefficient of the refractive index are much larger than that of optical glass, and the optical components made are greatly affected by temperature, and the image quality is not high.

The main materials of the lens are: colorless optical glass (GB903-87) / colored optical glass, infrared optical materials, crystal materials, glassy materials and plastic materials and other optical materials.
